Our host, Jimmy Hewitt, sat down with Jeff Goodhue, Americas Technical Sales Leader for Business Automation at IBM to discuss the evolution of Business Automation. You will hear about the significant development within systems, people, and processes overtime. The two also discuss uniting the business side of an organization with the technology side, and all that entails. From planning and setting a baseline, to finding the right balance of analysis, you will hear ample advice on how to unite the business and IT as one entity!
 
“People are learning how to be smarter than themselves.”
 
“Let’s also automate the things that are pretty repetitive. But then let’s also bring in some of those recommendations and natural language so that when they move to a newer task/an interesting task, there also supported by that too.”
 
“It could be the most beautifully architected system design your humming along, with containers and event driven architecture, but it you aren’t improving a metric, a KPI, then the business is never going to sign off on it. And likewise, if the architecture diagram, design, integration flows, information security hasn’t been properly designed then it’s never going to get off the ground with IT. So, that makes a ton of sense in terms of uniting the business with IT early and often. Focus on discovery and metrics.”
 
“The business is much more likely to involve themselves, feel ownership, move forward with the solution, and continue to improve overtime if they see that time to value. So, involve them early and often.”
 
“Mining is not only helpful on the upfront process discovery establishing your baseline, but it also helps with the continuous monitoring of that baseline after you’ve implemented your automation.”
